Cock and the Hen

Akbar once desired to fool Birbal somehow. Birbal was a clever person. It was not so easy to fool a person like Birbal. But still Akbar wished to be successful. Once Akbar conducting a meeting, Birbal was not present. Akbar gave one egg to each one of his ministers and said that he is putting effort to fool Birbal. Naturally the other ministers were happy. They also liked it.

At that movement Birbal entered the hall. Suddenly Akbar said Oh ministers! Yesterday i saw a sacred person in my dream. According to him who ever brings an egg from the pond in mu garden is sincere. All other are not sincere he said. Let me see the sincerity of all of you. Please go and bring one egg from the pond.

Birbal didn’t follow what Akbar said. Any way the other ministers rushed to the pond and bought one egg each and handed over it to the king. The egg was not given by Akbar himself the ministers were told that they are sincere.
Birbal went to the pond and searched for the egg. He couldn’t get any egg. He felt that Akbar is playing something. He came out of the pond and entered the kings court shouting like a cock.

Akbar got annoyed. Birbal. Stop it. I asked you to bring an egg from the pond. Tell whether you have brought it are not. Don’t shout like cock Akbar said.
Birbal laughed. Lord! What can i say now? Hen’s only lay eggs. But i am a cock. How can bring egg? Birbal replied. The whole court laughed. Akbar was helpless. He decided that Birbal is too clever and no one can fool him.

Such a person should be put to death under the feet of elephant said another minster. Then king asked Birbal. Birbal, what do you say? Lord such a person should be given sweet Birbal replied.

Akber was wonder stuck. Alright, let me give sweet, but why? Because your son or daughter can only touch your bread and pulled, that’s why I told that they should be give sweet.

Everyone was pleased to hear Birbal’s answer. Akbar asked the question because his young son pulled to bread sitting on his lap. Akbar appreciated Birbal’s intelligent in answering any question. He gave him gifts.

Few day past one day Akbar called the cook and ordered him to prepare a few dishes using brinjal only. The cook prepared accordingly. You through this vegetable somewhere else, This is tasteless. Moreover it is full of seeds, does this vegetable give energy? No this useless. You do one thing Birbal is found of this vegetable you better serve him this dish.

The cook took the dish to Birbal and served him telling the whole story. Birbal got angry. You fool! Why did you bring this? Take this and through it out. Birbal shouted at the cook.

The cook returned and told the Akbar about Birbal. Akbar was surprised. Oh Birbal! The other day you agreed that brinjal is very good vegetable. But today you have ordered the cook to through it out. Why asked Akbar?
King! The other day you appreciated brinjal, So I too appreciated. Today you have refused to eat it. Then why should i eat? I also refused. I want to be honest. It is my duty. Even though i appreciated brinjal it doesn’t honour me or give any power. But you are the king. Will it be all right if i disobey you sir? I am you humble servant. I am not a servant to brinjal Birbal replied. Akbar heard Birbal’s answer and laughed merrily.

Timely Skill

Once Akbar wanted to test the skill of Birbal, This time he described to check courage.

Akbar had one elephant which had gone mad. Everyday Birbal used to come to palace which Akbar was able to see sitting in the balcony. One fine day he pushed out of the elephant to the road in which Birbal was coming. Akbar was in balcony and observing what would happen. The elephant was in front of the   red- fort. By that time Birbal appeared there. He saw the mad elephant running towards him. He had no weapon or a sword in his hand.

Birbal was clever, he saw street dog near him. He touched its body and pushed that towards the elephant. The dog started barking. The elephant was unable to move further. The dog barked loudly. The elephant returned to the stable. Birbal patted the dog’s back and reached the palace safely.

Akbar appreciated Birbal for his timely skill and presented him gift.
